How To Root HTC Butterfly S and Install ClockWorkMod Touch Recovery

Pre-requisites & Requirements

  1. HTC Butterfly S – unlock bootloader (Ensure correct device model and firmware; Check device model – Go to Settings -> About Device -> Model Number)
  2. Windows-based computer or laptop
  3. Download HTC Butterfly S USB driver for Windows and install in your computer.
  4. Connect device to computer with USB cable to complete installation.
  5. Skip this step if you have installed the USB driver.
  6. Enable USB Debugging on your device. How to Enable USB Debugging Mode on Android Devices.
  7. Make sure your phone is charged to 60% 80% to avoid battery blackout and interruption during this tutorial.
  8. We recommend you make a backup on your data and media files before the tutorial. You may restore the data and files if necessary.

Reminder: Ensure you make a backup before proceed. Unlock bootloader will erase everything inside your device. Besides that, ensure you meet the requirements before proceed. Contact us if you face problem.

  1. Unlock HTC Butterfly S bootloader. Proceed to official Sony website and unlock your device.
  2. Proceed after you have successfully unlocked the bootloader.
  3. Setup fastboot in your computer if you do not have it. (How to setup ADB and Fastboot driver with Android SDK). Skip if you have done in Step 1. Fastboot will normally used to transfer files such as kernel to your device, unlike the normal USB transfer, Fastboot requires certain command code.
  4. Once you have completed the setup, copy adb.exe, AdbWinApi.dll from C:\\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools and fastboot.exe in C:\\android-sdk-windows\tools to a new folder at the desktop, renamed it as fastboot. (This step is inside the setup tutorial)
  5. Download recovery-clockwork-touch- to the fastboot folder.
  6. Power off your device completely.
  7. Press and hold Volume Down key and Power button. Wait the screen to be totally turn off then release power button with only Volume Down pressed.
  8. Now, select Bootloader and press Power button.
  9. Use Power button to select Fastboot.
  10. Back to computer, open Command Prompt windows. (To Open Command Prompt –>Windows Logo–> Type CMD in search box –>Enter)
  11. Type cd C:\fastboot in the command prompt windows to navigate to your fastboot folder. Else, you can directly open command windows with destination set to C:\fastboot by pressing Shift+Right Click Mouse on the fastboot folder, then select Open Command Windows here.
  12. In the command windows, type fastboot flash recovery-clockwork-touch- to flash the img file to your device.
  13. Press and hold Power button to turn off your device.
  14. Press and hold Volume Down key and Power button. Wait the screen to be totally turn off then release power button with only Volume Down pressed.
  15. Now, select Bootloader and press Power button.
  16. Use Power button to select Recovery.
  17. In recovery menu, selecte yes to root your ROM when asked.
  18. Reboot your device and you should have root access now.
  19. Download root checker to check your root status OR open your applications drawer and you should see SuperSU is installed.

    i get backup from recovery
    i can restore back no problem
    i want to delete old backups
    but from tel. or from computer i can’t see backup files
    (in clockworkmod file) not showing :(((
