Unlock Moto G 2014 Bootloader Guide

We continue further on Moto G 2014 device before we start flashing any custom ROM or kernel. As of Moto G 2014 comes with locked bootloader, hence first step we need to unlock the locked bootloader. Tutorial below works on all international variants of Moto G 2014. Bear in mind, unlock bootloader will void your device warranty, all your user data will also gone. How To Unlock Moto G 2014 Bootloader?

Step 1: Make necessary data backup. Follow guide here.

Step 2: Proceed to Motorola Official Bootloader unlock website.

Step 3: Read the term and condition and click “next” to proceed.

Step 4: Sign in Motorola or Google + account. Sign up an account if you do not have.

Step 5: Install Motorola USB driver and Android SDK. Follow guide (Motorola USB driver & Install Android SDK)

Step 6: Next, turn off Moto G. Boot Moto G 2014 to fastboot mode by pressing Power + Volume down button together)

Step 7: Goto Windows Start button –> Type cmd in the Search programs and files box. Type cd C:\fastboot in the command prompt windows. (You must follow our setup guide, else you won’t be able to run steps above)

Step 8: In the command prompt, type in $ fastboot oem get_unlock_data.

Step 9: You should receive 5 returned string. (Follow the official steps from Motorola bootloader unlock website.)

Step 10: Use copy function in command prompt to only copy the 5 lines of string to your Motorola unlock website.

Step 11: If your device is unlockable, a “REQUEST UNLOCK KEY” button will now appear at the bottom of the website.

Step 12: Press Can my device be unlocked? to check the unlock availability.

Step 13: Check and agree the legal agreement to proceed unlock.

Step 14: The unlock key will be sent to your email account. The unlock key is a 20-character alphanumeric code that you will use to unlock your device.

Step 15: Once you have the device ID, turn off your device. Press and hold Power and Volume Down Button and connect your device with USB cable to computer to enter Fastboot mode again. 

Step 16: Open a command windows or terminal again on your computer.

Step 17: Check your device connectivity on computer by typing $ fastboot devices in the cmd windows or terminal.

Step 18: You should see that your device is connected.

Step 19: To unlock your device bootloader, type $ fastboot oem unlock Your Device ID.

Step 20: Press enter and you should see your device has a confirmation message.

Step 21: Reboot your device and you should see Bootloader Unlocked Warning message.
