Pre-requisites & Requirements

  1. Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 GT-I9200 and GT-I9205 LTE (Ensure correct device model and firmware; Check device model – Go to Settings -> About Device -> Model Number)
  2. Windows-based computer or laptop
  3. Download Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 USB driver for Windows and install in your computer.
  4. Connect device to computer with USB cable to complete installation.
  5. Skip this step if you have installed the USB driver.
  6. Enable USB Debugging on your device. How to Enable USB Debugging Mode on Android Devices.
  7. Make sure your phone is charged to 60% 80% to avoid battery blackout and interruption during this tutorial.
  8. We recommend you make a backup on your data and media files before the tutorial. You may restore the data and files if necessary.

Instructions

  1. Download and extract Galaxy_Mega_Root_CWM.zip. You should see Odin3_v3.07 folder, boot.img.tar, i9200-cwm-recovery.tar and superSU.apk.
  2. Power off your device.
  3. Enter Download Mode by pressing and hold the Volume Down key, Home button, and Power button.
  4. You should see a warning triangle sign, press Volume Up to continue.
  5. You should see Odin Mode at the top and Downloading… , Do not turn off target!!
  6. Launch Odin executable file by double-clicking on Odin3 v3.07 exe.
  7. Connect your device to your computer with USB cable.
  8. Wait until Odin to show an “Added” message at the lower-left message box.
  9. After your device is detected by Odin, click on the PDA button and select the boot.img.tar
  10. Make sure the Repartition option is not checked under Options checked on Auto Reboot.
  11. Click Start button to flash boot.img.tar to your device. Monitor the flash progress on Odin.
  12. A green “PASS” message should show for a success flashing.
  13. Your device shall reboot automatically.
  14. After reboot, power off your device and back to Download Mode again, by pressing and hold the Volume Down key, Home button, and Power button.
  15. Connect device again with Odin and get the “Added” message.
  16. This time, click on the PDA button and select the i9200-cwm-recovery.tar. (Both i9200 and i9205 are using the same recovery file)
  17. Click Start button to flash i9200-cwm-recovery.tar to your device. Monitor the flash progress on Odin.
  18. A green “PASS” message should show for a success flashing.
  19. Your device shall reboot automatically.
  20. Go to Google Play Store and download and install SuperSU. Make sure you allow root access and enable SuperSU after installation.

  21. Download root checker to check your root status OR open your applications drawer and you should see SuperSU is installed.
