Sony Xperia Ion finally makes its way to Jelly Bean community recently with the latest Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean firmware 6.2.B.0.211 release by Sony. If your Xperia Ion has not detected Jelly Bean update, fear not as you can always flash the update package to your device using Sony Flashtool. We have prepared the complete guide for that too in case you need to have Jelly Bean installed on Xperia Ion eagerly. Once your Xperia Ion updated to Jelly Bean, you can now proceed with rooting the device to gain full access to the system to remove unwanted bloatware,

Pre-requisites & Requirements
- Sony Xperia Ion LT28h with stock firmware – unlock bootloader (Ensure correct device model and firmware; Check device model – Go to Settings -> About Device -> Model Number)
- Windows-based computer or laptop
- Download Sony Xperia Ion USB driver for Windows and install in your computer.
- Connect device to computer with USB cable to complete installation.
- Skip this step if you have installed the USB driver.
- Enable USB Debugging on your device. How to Enable USB Debugging Mode on Android Devices.
- Make sure your phone is charged to 60% 80% to avoid battery blackout and interruption during this tutorial.
- We recommend you make a backup on your data and media files before the tutorial. You may restore the data and files if necessary.

Instructions: (Method 1)
- Unlock Sony Xperia Ion bootloader. Proceed to official Sony website and unlock your device.
- Proceed after you have successfully unlocked the bootloader.
- With your device turned on, connect to computer via micro USB cable.
- Copy and paste Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip to the device’s internal storage.
- Unplug your device from computer.
- Download Sony flashtool into your computer. Double click on the flashtool.exe file to install. You should see a flashtool folder in C Drive.
- Double click on flashtool icon in the folder mentioned in Step 3 to launch flashtool.
- Download ION_DooMLoRD_Ganesh_JB-leak_twrp2.5_kernel.elf and LT28h_6.2.B.0.211_kernel.sin, copy to flashtool/firmwares folder in computer.
- Power off your device completely.
- Enter Fastboot Mode by connecting your device to the computer via micro USB cable while pressing Volume Up button.
- On the flashtool windows, click on the lightning icon and click fastboot mode, then “ok”.
- Click “Select kernel to Flash” on right side in flashtool.
- Browse and choose “ION_DooMLoRD_Ganesh_JB-leak_twrp2.5_kernel.elf ” in the flashtool/firmwares. ION_DooMLoRD_Ganesh_JB-leak_twrp2.5_kernel.elf will be flashed to your device.
- Your device should be reboot automatically after flashing elf file.
- Press and hold Power button to turn off your device then unplug your device from computer.
- Now, turn on your device. When you see TWRP logo, press Volume Up button to boot into TWRP recovery.
- From TWRP recovery, choose “install” then followed by “sdcard”. Locate the Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip file and “swipe” to flash it.
- After flashing Superuser, press “Home” then choose “reboot to Fastboot”. At the same time, connect your device to the computer via micro USB cable. This will boot your device into Fastboot mode.
- On the flashtool windows, click on the lightning icon and click fastboot mode, then “ok”.
- Click “Select kernel to Flash” on right side in flashtool.
- Browse and choose “LT28h_6.2.B.0.211_kernel.sin” in the flashtool/firmwares. LT28h_6.2.B.0.211_kernel.sin will be flashed to your device. If LT28h_6.2.B.0.211_kernel.sin cannot be found, renamed to kernel.sin.
- Reboot your device now.
- Download root checker to check your root status.

Update
Instructions: (Method 2)
- Download DooMLoRD_Easy-Rooting-Toolkit_v17_perf-event-exploit.zip to your computer.
- Extract the zip file into a folder. You should see a “files” folder and a “runme.bat”.
- Ensure you have enabled USB Debugging and enable “Unknown Sources” in Settings->Security->Unknown Sources on your device.
- Connect your device to computer while it is powered on.
- Skip “PC Companion Software” prompt on the device screen.
- Download click to launch “runme.bat”.
- [Follow screen instructions] Press any key to continue.
- Complete the process to install busybox and SuperUser.
- Reboot your device when the script finish execution and you should have root access gained.
- If you are facing issue of device rebooting when remounting /system partition then do checkout the fix posted by @[NUT].
