How To Root Galaxy S4 Mini GT-I9192 Android 4.2.2

Root Galaxy S4 Mini guide is now available. Root guide below is only applicable to dual sim support Galaxy S4 Mini model GT-I9192 model. It will not works for any other Galaxy S4 Mini model. Root guide below works on Galaxy S4 mini I9195 dual sim version with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean firmware. DO NOT try on other Galaxy S4 mini variants. In this tutorial, upon installation, you can get a custom CWM recovery as well as root access. The entire procedure can be divided to 2 parts, the first part is to install custom recovery and the second part is to gain the root access. The entire process is straight forward but tricky. Follow us step by step to ease the difficulty to gain root access at the end. Upon this installation, you will not lose any device data but we strongly recommend you to make a full backup before start. A note ahead, this root guide is applicable to GT-I9192 model with XXUAMF7 stock ROM. Check carefully before you start. Check device model – Go to Settings -> About Device -> Build Number. If you come with other build number, you need additional step to install XXUAMF7 firmware before proceed further. We will guide you in the installation instruction below.

Samsung Galaxy S4 is the mini version of Galaxy S4. Samsung Galaxy S4 mini is a mid range Android smartphone with 4.3 inches Super AMOLED display (441ppi), Qualcomm Dual-Core 1.7GHz Snapdragon 400 processor, 1.5GB RAM, 8GB internal storage, 64GB expandable SDcard storage and 8MP rear camera. It is running latest Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean out of the box.

How To Root and Install CWM Recovery on Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini I9192 with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean Official Firmware

Pre-requisites & Requirements

  1. Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini I9192 with XXUAMF7 firmware (Ensure correct device model and firmware; Check device model – Go to Settings -> About Device -> Model Number)
  2. Windows-based computer or laptop
  3. Download Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini USB driver for Windows and install in your computer. Connect device to computer with USB cable to complete installation. Skip this step if you have installed the USB driver.
  4. Enable USB Debugging on your device. How to Enable USB Debugging Mode on Android Devices.
  5. Make sure your phone is charged to 60% 80% to avoid battery blackout and interruption during this tutorial.
  6. We recommend you make a backup on your data and media files before the tutorial. You may restore the data and files if necessary.

Reminder: You do not need to wipe your device but we always suggest your backup before flashing. Perform wipe data only if you face problem after flashing. Ensure you meet the requirements before proceed. Contact us if you face problem.

  1. (ROOT_I9192_CWM6_Kernel.zip, 13.1MB) – Source
  2.  (GT-I9192-RootKit-v2.zip, 1.2MB)
  3. Optional: XXUAMF7 Stock Firmware (I9192XXUAMF7_I9192SERAMF7_SER.zip | 884.6 MB)

Instructions:

If you are NOT with XXUAMF7 firmware and wish to root, you need to install XXUAMF7 Stock Firmware first else you will have issue on your device which already been tested. Follow steps below to install XXUAMF7 firmware before proceed to root.

  1. Download and extract Odin3.07.zip in a folder in computer.
  2. Download and extract I9192XXUAMF7_I9192SERAMF7_SER.zip to get *.tar or *tar.md5 in a folder in computer.
  3. Power off your device.
  4. Enter Download Mode by pressing and hold the Volume Down key, Home button, and Power button.
  5. You should see a warning triangle sign, press Volume Up to continue.
  6. You should see Odin Mode at the top and Downloading… , Do not turn off target!!
  7. Launch Odin executable file by double-clicking on Odin3 v3.07 exe.
  8. Connect your device to your computer with USB cable.
  9. Wait until Odin to show an “Added” message at the lower-left message box.
  10. After your device is detected by Odin, click on the PDA button and select the *.tar or *.tar.md5.
  11. Make sure the Repartition option is not checked under Options checked on Auto Reboot.
  12. Click Start button to flash *.tar or *.tar.md5 to your device. Monitor the flash progress on Odin.
  13. A green “PASS” message should show for a success flashing.
  14. Your device shall reboot automatically.
  15. Upgrade is complete. (Check device firmware – Go to Settings -> About Device –> Android & Baseband version)
  16. If you fail to flash *.tar.md5 firmware, remove the extension of *.md5 with only *.tar and try to re-flash again.
CONTINUE ONCE YOU HAVE XXUAMF7 FIRMWARE ON YOUR DEVICE
  1. Download and extract ROOT_I9192_CWM6_Kernel.zip in a folder in computer. You should see Odin3 v3.07.exe and  ROOT_I9192_CWM6_Kernel.tar.
  2. Download and transfer GT-I9192-RootKit-v2.zip into your device’s internal storage.
  3. Power off your device.
  4. Enter Download Mode by pressing and hold the Volume Down key, Home button, and Power button.
  5. You should see a warning triangle sign, press Volume Up to continue.
  6. You should see Odin Mode at the top and Downloading… , Do not turn off target!!
  7. Launch Odin executable file by double-clicking on Odin3 v3.07 exe.
  8. Connect your device to your computer with USB cable.
  9. Wait until Odin to show an “Added” message at the lower-left message box.
  10. After your device is detected by Odin, click on the PDA button and select the ROOT_I9192_CWM6_Kernel.tar.
  11. Make sure the Repartition and F.Reset Time option is not checked under Options checked on Auto Reboot.
  12. Click Start button to flash ROOT_I9192_CWM6_Kernel.tar to your device. Monitor the flash progress on Odin.
  13. A green “PASS” message should show for a success flashing.
  14. Your device shall reboot automatically.
  15. Power off your device.
  16. Boot into CWM Recovery Mode by press and hold Volume Up, Home button and Power button.
  17. In Recovery home menu, select install zip from sdcard, then select choose zip from internal sdcard.
  18. Select GT-I9192-RootKit-v2.zip and click Yes to install.
  19. Back to Recovery home menu, select reboot system now.
  20. Your device shall reboot with root installed.
  21. Download root checker to check your root status.

    everything was going fine until point 7, i cant select the options in cwm recovery mode, therefore cant select the root-kit.zip?

      You should be seeing something like picture below when you boot to Recovery mode. Did you see this screen? You may have enter wrong mode, press the correct button to enter Recovery mode. Let us know if it works for you.

    I have the same problem as Jonatan.
    I have make wipe cach and dalvik cache.
    The device shows the massage further.
    Is it a critical problem like trojaner,virus?

    What can I do know?
